Kathleen & Andy Weber of Northern Cross Vineyard, Valley Falls

good stuff good people

How would you describe your business and/or products?

We are a small farm producing wine from our own locally grown grapes.

Why do you choose Washington County for your farm?

My wife was familiar with the beautiful scenery and wanted to move here after we got married.

What has surprised you most OR challenged you most as a farmer?

I have absolutely no control over the weather and how much there is to learn about soils, plant nutrition, disease and pest control.

Why should someone buy your products?

It is an authentic local wine. It also happens to taste pretty good.

Is there are a particular moment, memory or achievement in your farm or business that stands out for you?

A lot of the firsts stand out. The first time we crushed in the fall of 2013, the first bottling in July of 2014 and our first customer in Nov 2014.

What is the biggest misconception about wine?

I am seeing that a lot of consumer education is needed to explain what grapes we use, what is local and how broad wine really is.
